Title
Hudson River from past site of Catskill Mountain House
Artist
Robert P Hedden
Medium
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
A plein air painting from the overlook at the top of the escarpment that was the site of the Catskill Mountain House (circa 1800's). The view was painted by the Hudson River School of artists, thus making the area popular for tourists. Accessible from North/South Lake, a NY State park, also the subject matter for the same school of artists. A twenty five minute uphill walk on a bumpy rock trail but you can pull you cart with painting supplies. One of 18 sites currently identified on a map of the Hudson River School Trail. The scene is for miles and visibility is greatly affected by the dust and moisture in the air. White structures catch the sunlight as little specs of civilization in the landscape.
